Meet The Coach

I’m John Yagi, a passionate NCCP Level 2 Pickleball Coach and Instructor. I’ve immersed myself in the sport for over 5 years, transitioning into coaching 2 years ago to share my love and expertise with others. Recently, I had the exhilarating experience of competing in the USA National Pickleball Championships in Dallas, TX, where my blind-date mixed doubles team secured a commendable 6th place out of 23 teams.

What the Coach Provides

I have 3 additional paddles (my own 2 Selkirk Epics and generic Carbon 16mm weighted 8.5 oz high quality) that students may use or.demo for their first time, a ball hopper with 40+ balls for games, practice and drills.. And a portable pickleball net with tape to set up anywhere to play.

What You Need to Bring

Bring your “A” game (2x “PET”): First set of PET: 1. “P” = Physical – how is your body feeling today prepared or not? 2. “E” = Equipment – right Paddle, sport wear and appropriate court shoes? 3. “T” = Technical – are you prepared to start with the basic fundamentals eg. Serve, Groundstrokes, Volleys, Drops, Dinks, Overheads focusing on Grip, Set Up, Impact Point, Sensation and Recovery. Second set of PET: 1. “P” = Psychological- how is your mind feeling today working on your Mental Toughness, by drilling and practicing techniques. 2. “E” = Environment – when playing outdoors looking at Sun, Wind Temperature Moisture that will affect your brain to function differently than playing indoors. 3. “T” = Tactical- how will you apply and handle pressure to and manage pressure from your opponents by understanding why you send or receive certain shots, eg. BE CONSISTENT by keeping the ball in play, and Serving deep to APPLY PRESSURE on your opponent and returning the serves deep to manage deep serves so that you have more time and distance to run to the Non Volley Line to attack and again apply pressure to your opponents.

Many beginners see noticeable improvement after just one or two lessons. With consistent practice between lessons, you’ll typically experience steady progress and increased confidence on the court within a few weeks.

Your coach will assess your skills and customize your lesson to target areas like serving, dinks, volleys, and footwork.

Practice and Immediate Feedback:

Engage in drills and practice shots, receiving real-time tips and corrections.

Strategy and Progress:

Learn effective game strategies and actionable tips to enhance your enjoyment and skill level. 

Pickleball lessons can take place at any court your coach has access to or any court you provide, as long as it’s within your instructor’s travel radius. Each coach lists their preferred locations for lessons, but you’re welcome to suggest alternatives. Keep in mind that public courts without reservations can be crowded during peak hours. Locations requiring reservation fees or additional costs will clearly note these charges on the location map.

Lessons are generally private, allowing you focused attention and comfortable learning. If you’d like to bring a friend or have someone watch, simply inform your coach in advance
